WavGirl.Com The Original

The concept behind WavGirl.Com began more than ten years ago (13 years, 8 months, and 1 days ago, to be precise).

I discovered the internet in 1994. Every day, I raced to my Packard Bell 486DX and listened to the buzz of my super-fast 9.6k modem connect to Prodigy. A few minutes later, I was connected to a limited world that seemed limitless. I spent time sending questions to the Ask Beth column, and posted frequently to the teen message boards. I eventually became bored, so I installed AOL 2.0. I spent countless hours in chat rooms.

In 1995, I begged my parents for a Sound Blaster kit with a CD-ROM and sound card (geek), and we upgraded our computer. It was a big deal when we upgraded our memory to 12 MB from 4 MB. Finally able to hear sound clips, I found the WAV Sounds chat room on AOL and had fun trading WAVs with everyone. I loved it so much, in fact, that I used the name WavGirl when I created my first home page with AOL's Personal Publisher 1.

My first page had a hideous fractal background and neon text. Over time, I added more pages and came up with a general color scheme, which included the well-known pink texture background. I promoted my site by posting about it on newsgroups, message boards, and chat rooms. Looking back, it was obnoxious! One person decided to confront me about a newsletter email intended to get more hits. His name was Dimitrios, though I would know him as Flik. Today, Flik lives nearby and we are still good friends (I still don't call him by his real name).

In 2000, I purchased wavgirl.com and started to develop other, more personal areas of my site. The old areas were grouped together and became known as The Original. Today, it is more like a virtual time capsule. The Original is filled with the same files and diversions found by visitors in years past.
