At Last

Railing before and after photos:

Work on the kitchen starts in about 2-3 weeks!

A Few More Things

We looked through the Pennysaver yesterday, and discovered that the person who tiled our shower about six months ago also does some misc. jobs and carpentry. He remembered us, and he’s coming back in about 2 weeks. The railing will be finished in one day! I can’t wait to get this unstable metal one out of here.

I forgot to mention a couple of things in my last post. The carpet in the family room was wearing out fast. I thought we would have to replace it sometime in the next year. Then, my parents brought over their carpet cleaner. I was amazed with the results! It looks almost as good as it did when it was new, and the important thing is that it’s clean when the kids are playing. We got a 50-pint dehumidifer for the room as well. I had no idea just how much we needed it. It fills up 1-2 times each day. It’s also much cooler and fresher now.

Delays

Would you like to see our new railing by the entryway?

So would we… but it’s in our garage. It isn’t assembled.

The person who was supposed to finish sort of bailed on us. He had so much going on in his personal life that it seemed like he would never get it done, so he returned all of the supplies to us. We figured it would be easy to hire someone for this. The problem is that every handyman seems to think it’s a big project, and every carpenter thinks it’s too small.

I hope we can get this done soon. It’s a new semester, so that means I am very busy. Carrying 8 credits doesn’t sound like much. I probably would have shrugged it off when I was working on my B.A., but it’s a different story with three kids under the age of 5. My goal is to maintain my 3.7 GPA.

Micah has been working a lot of overtime at his new job, so I’m sure we’ll be able to save up for some home projects. In the meantime, we’re cleaning up for the cold months. The yard is in good shape and the garage is cleared to fit both cars. In Syracuse, you have to prepare for winter far in advance!
