My family visited us this weekend. My father and I completed some wiring in the attic; adding a junction box, an outlet in the attic, and wiring the twins’ chandelier.

It’s funny how snow can be so exciting when you have no big plans and it’s Christmastime. I’m like a giddy little kid every time it starts!
The computer armoire we ordered arrived last week. Micah assembled it that night, as soon as he got home from work, and I stayed up late setting up the computer. It fits perfectly where we put it in the living room. I will update the photos/tour of that room soon. In the meantime, we are waiting for some missing crib hardware to ship and the big gender ultrasound before we finish the baby’s room. Right now, it is basically empty.
We re-painted Molly & Mia’s room a few days ago. The original plan was to build a chair rail, but we’re still kind of new to all this. We decided to stick to what we knew best: painting! I wanted to use purple hues, but that meant we’d have to replace their bedding, curtains, and decorations. We ended up using pale pink with a darker accent wall. Everything matches perfectly, and the paint is even and glossy. It looks so much better than it did before.
I have been keeping busy while Micah is at work. Yesterday, I threw on a mask, found some old white paint and supplies in the garage, and set out to paint Molly & Mia’s closet doors. They were still the same ugly tan color that the walls were when we moved in. What an improvement!

My Dad is going to help Micah add some insulation in the attic when they visit next week. I think there’s a draft coming from the door.
I’ll have more updates soon.
My Dad was kind enough to tackle our attic this weekend. I was afraid to go near it, and Micah was clueless. There was no floor – just clouds of thick insulation. We didn’t know where to begin. Previous owners had thrown all sorts of things up there so they could crawl across, and all of it became our problem to clean!

It took about 7 hours, 2 face masks and a whole lot of sneezing, but he was able to build a plywood floor for us! It looks like we paid a professional to do it.

We have so much storage space now! I can’t wait to go through all of our storage items, sort them into rubbermaid containers, and put them away.
We also fixed a few odds and ends around the house, like our dryer hose (it kept falling off the vent). I also helped wire cable through the attic and into our bedroom. We used a wall plate to make it look very neat and hid the wires well. I’m so glad we have cable in there now!
My Dad also showed us how to fix a crack in the front steps. We used small rocks to fill in the gap and caulked it. Then, he used hydraulic cement to seal everything off and make it look neat. It’s a big improvement! We didn’t get to finish painting the house, but we’ll use a paint sprayer in a couple of weeks to get the sides of the house. Micah has been working on the back, a little at a time.

My parents came over for a visit this weekend, and I can’t believe how much we got done around the house! My Dad showed me how to take down trees, use a pressure washer, spackle and paint the house. We got all the trees out on the side of the house, prepared the foundation to be painted, and finished it already! It came out perfect. We also painted the front gutter because it was rusty. It took a few trips to the local dump to get rid of all the trees, but it was well worth it. They were right up against the house, so they had to go.
We ripped out the weeds and put mulch down, so it looks very neat now. We touched up the back of the house by adding more mulch there as well. After a break, we headed up to the attic. I was pretty nervous when I found out that we had fiberglass insulation up there, and dust was flying around because we had to move it around a bit. I can’t believe what a mess it is up there! Previous owners used everything from cardboard to old pieces of paneling to create a “floor” up there. We brought in some plywood and got some preliminary work done. The whole thing is going to take a while, since there are electrical wires everywhere that we have to go around. I also want to wire cable into the master bedroom next time.
Now, if I could just overcome my fear of heights and start painting the rest of the house, I’d be all set! Maybe I should leave that to Micah!
