Finding the Perfect Home

Our house hunting experience was an interesting one. We started out with a price range in mind, and quickly found a home we were interested in. We made an offer, and it was quickly accepted. The inspection, however, did turn out as smooth. It was an older home, built in the 1920s, and needed a lot of work. The electrical wiring was a big concern, and the owners had done a lot of work themselves which demonstrated poor workmanship. It was a nice area in Syracuse, but we would still be in the city. We decided to up our price range and look in the suburbs.

We saw a lot of houses on our second run. We were very tired, since it was a 6-hour round-trip. One of the homes was a foreclosure. There were holes punched into the basement wall, trash was strewn all over the house, and all the carpets were a mess. That was a discouraging sight! Then, we made a final stop. Immediately, we fell in love with the quiet neighborhood. When we walked into the house, the realtor said, "Close your eyes! No, I mean it's a good thing!". It definitely was.

The first thing we noticed was the beautiful hardwood flooring. The seller had replaced all the windows and exterior doors, remodeled the downstairs family room, and added all new carpeting. We made an offer, and with some negotiating we reached the conclusion we wanted. The seller switched lawyers halfway through the process, which slowed things down tremendously. Micah had his job transfer set up, and we had given notice to our landlord. We started to panic that things wouldn't piece together, but in the end it all worked out. We moved in Easter weekend, and quickly got to work.
